PAROS: WORLD’S #1 ISLAND
Discover Paros: A Cycladic Paradise Awaits
Pretty as a picture Paros, with its charming little town of Parikia, its striking beaches, the beautiful seaside town of Naoussa and the hill top town of Lefkes. The many beaches and villages will delight you in what the island has to offer. Paros pulls you gently along from one delight to another. It has also recently been named the number #1 island in the world by Travel + Leisure.
The narrow paved streets and the history and architecture of Parikia beckon. Sample local cheese, olives and wine. Shop for clothes and jewellery in the many inviting shops. Take home a piece of art or marble sculpture. Visit the Panagia Ekatontapiliani (Church of the Hundred Doors). Wander through its peaceful chapels and admire the Byzantine art. Paros has many ancient sites and museums to keep you enthralled in this ancient culture.
Nestled in the hills of Paros sits the traditional village of Lefkes. This adorable white washed village perches sublimely in the mountains overlooking its near neighbour, the island of Naxos. Sit and enjoy a wine and watch the village square spring to life on summer evenings. Stroll the tiny lanes filled with endless character. While in Lefkes you can hike the 1000 year old Byzantine trail down to Prodromos. Pieces of Parian marble pave the way, interspersed with rock and soil. Listen to the silence as you walk past an abundance of wildflowers. Fig and olive trees sway in the breeze. Wild sage and thyme waft their scent as you walk by. You’ll be transported back in time with sweeping views to keep you company.
The small village of Prodromos is a delight. All white and blue with a few pink painted doors to complement the beauty of the bougainvillea. Wander a while, sit at a taverna, and enjoy a drink and bask in the pure prettiness of this quaint little village.
And now to the coast, which is a must when on the islands. Head to the charming harbour of Naoussa where you can enjoy the catch of the day while watching the traditional fishing boats bob in the tranquil blue waters. Near Naoussa you’ll also find the beaches of Kolymbithres, Monasteri, Piperi Beach and Santa Maria.
And don’t forget the incredible and unmissable Antiparos, a short ferry ride from Parikia or a 5 minute ferry from the port of Pounts. Luxuriate in its low key vibe, its abundance of beauty, its magnificent Castro and cave. Drink coffee and ouzo. Eat seafood and ice cream and live the Cycladic dream. The must see shops, cafes and stalactite cave here are an essential day trip and easily accessible from the main island.
A day, a week, a month or a year would never be love enough to enjoy the wonders of Paros.
Much love,
TJ Travels xoxo
