Explore Syros' Timeless Beauty

Discover Syros: The Hidden Gem of the Cyclades with Venetian Charm

Welcome to the beauty and grace of Syros, a charming Greek island centrally located in the Cyclades group but with a distinct Venetian difference.

Its main town, Ermoupoli, the old town of Ano Syros, and its beaches, harbours, museums and pretty villages, you’ll have lots of opportunity to discover this unique island.

Ermoupoli, the main town, is the capital of the Cyclades. The heart of the town is Miaouli Square, a place where you can take a stroll, chat with locals, or watch Greek dancing and music performances. Miaouli Square is home to the town hall and the Hermoupolis Cultural Centre, with a large section of paved marble in the centre. Stand here and contemplate the history that has made its mark on this delightful place.

The lanes of Ermoupoli beckon visitors and locals to find a table and eat under the vines in one of the many tavernas. Excellent Cycladic food awaits to tantalise your taste buds. Afterwards stroll the lanes and drink in the beauty of the quaint art galleries, artisan shops, fashion and jewellery, and so much more. Listen to the island and hear its secrets. Syros is a great island for shopping. The wonderful local wares effortlessly fit in with the designer elite stores.

Take a walk to the Vaporia district of Ermoupoli and enjoy the beauty of the pastel neoclassical mansions. Walk down to Asteria beach, a rocky but crystal-clear swimming area, and look up at the magnificent beauty of the Church of Saint Nicholas. This Greek Orthodox cathedral, with its blue domes and bell towers, sits in one of the most picturesque areas of Syros.

And then there’s Ano Syros, the star of the island, the medieval heart of Syros. The crown in the jewel. The glorious Church of Saint George (1170) sits atop the hill, reaching out to the island. This historic hilltop town, built in the 13th century by the Venetians, will capture your imagination. Its winding cobblestone paths, stone houses draped in bougainvillea, and tavernas serving local specialties and wine will make you ponder its mysteries. As you wind your way down take in the magnificent views spread out before you.

Syros is an island filled with beauty, a magnificent harbour and delicious food.

An island with a difference but with a lot of heart and soul. An island of history and mystery. It is overlooked by so many travellers but we prefer to keep it a secret!

Much love,
